Bright Spots

Across the river the beautiful Adirondack Mountains.

May 12, 2020

Hi there,

How's the lock down going? Over this way, luckily, we are not totally confined to quarters, so most days I strive to get out there to recharge.  But I know many people are confined, and, if you are, I hope you will be free to roam very soon.

I like the shape of this sumac. In the fall, when the seeds turn a deep maroon, I may paint this scene with a bit of artistic license thrown in.

I've been scrutinizing the trees for signs life. As a species, they do not give up their secrets too quickly.  But it seems as soon as I turn my back, the leaves pop out.

Tiny promises of spring peek out as soon as the earth shakes off the cold. I love the reflections and the green shoots around the edges of the water.

Paintings
 Yupo paper and water colours.

And recently, I was delighted to send a print of my pastel painting: "Fall In The Yukon" off to a new home.

 Thank you for your company!

  Be well and be safe!

Cultivate your dreams.

Wandering Camera for December

"These boots are made for walking."
A new post this time for Soma's Wandering Camera link party. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

As you can see the land has faded to monochrome, but it's still pretty out there.  About 20cm of  feather snow fell in November, but to everyone's amazement it has disappeared. You can find the pics on Instagram.
Tops of the rushes faded to beige.

These birches remind me of a giraffe.
Texture and sky striations.
Refuge for a Marsh Wren.

The chickadees love my son, Jesse.

A Nuthatch checks the ground for seeds.

                                                               Dusk creeps about the woods.
Darkness arrives so fast now...almost dark at 4:19 p.m.

Off the drawing board:
My Christmas Card. The prints haven't arrived yet, so perhaps they will be for next year.
Arrived on the wing: Resplendent Quetzal Glicee prints.
Nonsensical doodles. My sister, Lorraine, runs from snakes. Maybe I should warn her, ;) but this wee guy looks friendly.

'Til next time...Enjoy...

Bird and Butterfly

Thank you for your lovely comments about my Rosetta Mitts pattern! There has been a lot of downloads on Raverly. I'd love to see these mitts knit with different yarns and colours. I am knitting another pair in Superman Yellow, using Classic Elite Yarns Fresco.

Before I post a picture of my latest painting, I want to share a few pictures of wild flowers and something unusual that I ran into lately. That's the great thing about nature if you are looking you just might see something that you've never seen before. In this case, it was my son who pointed out this unusual bug to me. Apparently, some of us have our heads in the clouds.
While I was trying to capture a picture of this monarch butterfly, a dragonfly landed on my hand. He left and came back and was on my hand when I took this pic.  My son took a picture with his phone, but unfortunately it's fuzzy.
I think these are wild cucumber.
A leaf bug. I couldn't believe it...we actually saw two.  As you can see from his eye, he has a giant attitude.

My painting "board" is foam board. Balanced on the tray, it's the perfect height for me.  I can draw on it and because it's so cheap, I'll throw it out when it gets dirty.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'd like to open an Etsy shoppe, so I've been busy looking for printers etc. We have several printers in town, but, unfortunately, not one focuses on watercolour prints. In particular, I would like to order Giclee prints. I am in the process of sourcing printers in Toronto. Hopefully, I'll have something on the go soon.

Enjoy the week...
