Hi everyone,
Blue skies are always a welcome sight. We have had a lot of snow and ice storms lately, so blue skies with fluffy white clouds sailing by are a sight to behold. While difficult to see just now, nature is working on her ultimate creation--spring. (No sign of any flowers yet though.) But May will tip us over the edge weather wise, and June, magnificent June, will usher in starburst blossoms everywhere, including brilliant crab apple trees. A favourite of mine.
Recently, my main computer developed a few issues. One issue: I could not download my photos. As you know, computers sometimes have a mind of their own. I mean what really happened between then and now? Perhaps I could have ferreted out the answer and fixed the problem but, thankfully, my son, Jesse, did the wizards job for me.
Many new devices and newly installed drivers download photos, writing etc. that are also held in the cloud. That I am told enables us to train AI. Call me old fashioned but no clouds please--just those in the sky for me, thank you. Thank you very much.
Had visions of an Easter bunny but got a chick instead. |
Back to watercolour for a little Easter painting including the tulips to the left. Also to the left a few new Daniel Smith watercolours and to the right Sennelier watercolour. Fun to mix colours with different paints. What works in one set may not work in the other because of pigment load, colour temperature, and other variations.
Although I haven't tried many mixing scenarios, the Daniel Smith primaries are both warm and cool. So possible to mix any colour with this set. Time will tell.
Desk top.
To the right on the wall is a calendar by Angela Harding. Her linocuts are complex and masterful. I believe she does wood engraving as well. What is the difference between a linocut and a wood engraving? You can, if you wish, create more definition, texture and tone in a wood engraving.
Speaking of print making, I plan to get busy soon. There are a couple of soft blocks in my stash. I do have something in mind and my tools could use a work out.
An oldie drawing. |
Someone ask me about my studio/atelier or workshop. Well, I do not really have one. My desks are in a corner of my bedroom. The small one you see above this photo faces a wall and this narrow desk above runs next to that under the window.
Because of fumes, dust etc., there is another designated area with a standing easel for acrylic, oil, and pastel painting.
Colour swatches, flowers and ink brighten up the world. |

'Til next time...

My weather is definitely ahead of yours. We are HOT here in Kansas, which is definitely landlocked.
Sorry about your computer. I had a similar problem with blogger awhile back.
Your Easter chick is adorable. Lovely colored eggs, too. LOVE those tulips. They are beautiful. I'm not that familiar with watercolors, but it sounds like you understand them quite well. And I spied a drink ion the photo, too.
Wow. I've not worked with print making. I look forward to seeing what you create.
I've never heard of lisianthus, but they DO look like roses to me, too. Are those lilacs in the vase? I spy another drink, too. Is it also matcha?
Your small paintings are beautiful. You paint so well. Have a lovely Easter yourself, Dixie. Thanks for sharing your art, paintings, and drinks with us for T this Tuesday, dear.
Its funny how the metaphors used to describe computer technology do confuse people. “The Cloud” does sound very strange and threatening but it’s really a convenient way to avoid buying more storage devices, not something metaphysical.
Pretty watercolors!

Your desk is so pretty. Mine is a disaster, but then I work better with a bit of chaos, but not too much. Funny how we all have our own styles.. And by funny I mean interesting. AI writing drives me nuts because it thinks it knows what I want to say, but it never actually knows. Your pastel paintings are beautiful, and lucky you to have indoor tomatoes. I hope this week you have lots of blue sky and white fluffy clouds. and a happy T day too. hugs-Erika
Today is a gray sky day but yesterday was a rare shot of blue, and boy -- do you ever grab it while you can! I love your pastels and your chick -- so cute. Makes me wonder why I spent time painting not-Easter when it was the perfect time to indulge in chicks and bunnies. They're charming. And I also love seeing your art set-up and hearing about the paints and mixes, etc. Love those process bits. Finally, loving the block. I haven't done lino printing in ages and enjoyed it.
It's so delightful to see a post from you again! Glad you are "back!"
Glad to see blue skies where you are, we've also had sunny weather here of late - yay 😊. Loving your Easter chick painting, so adorable with those colourful eggs and soft flowers. Your macha tea looks delicious too - wishing you Happy T Day wishes! Hugs, Jo x
Lovely images!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful spring-y photos at https://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2025/04/a-few-more-before-i-forget.html
Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks so much.
The vase has a Hyacinth in it. They do resemble lilacs, but
lilacs smell so much better.
Yes, another matcha. :)They are so tasty.
Happy T day, and have a very Happy Easter too!
Since it’s a small area, I try to keep the chaos
to a minimum. But it sneaks in despite my best efforts.
A whirlwind of creative chaos is not a bad thing, I reckon. :)
Best wishes. Enjoy a very Happy Easter, Erika.
Hi Jeanie,
No blue skies today, but yesterday was simply gorgeous. Enjoyed a long overdue rejuvenating walk in the woods.
Thank so much for your lovely comments.
Have a very Happy Easter.
Hi Jo,
Happy to hear you have been enjoying sunny days.
They are a gift.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments.
Happy T day, and a very Happy Easter to you too!
Thank you, Sue.
Many thanks for hosting.
Best Wishes
Thanks so much.
The cloud is definitely somewhat esoteric and supernatural to me, Mae. Lol
Have very Happy Easter.
Blue skies and fluffy clouds were visible on Monday. More rain today. Your Easter card and flowers are so pretty. They're giving me Spring Fever. Happy T Day
What a beautiful corner for painting you have. Lovely clouds,
lovely creations and images.
Have a Happy Easter, Dixie with peace and joy! 💗😘
Thank you for sharing your baby chick with us at Art Journal Journey using Erika's theme.
Blue skies really do lift the mood, and your Easter chick painting is so sweet. Glad Jesse could fix the tech hiccup. Can’t wait to see what you create next with those new watercolours. Happy Easter! 🌸🐣
Your Easter chick paintings and your others are so beautiful! I've always had blue skies, too. Your posting is lovely. I wish you a happy Easter.Hugs Elke
Why have I not heard of lisianthus before? It's a beautiful flower and yes, it looks like a rose.
Your skies are beautiful. We are getting some blue skies as well but it's still oh-so cold!
Your Easter picture is delightful.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca
I have a dedicated backup drive always connected to my computer. I feel much better with having total control over my data. Lovely colours, beautiful paintings, delicious tomatoes and a very sweet little chick. I am sure the bunny is right around the corner.

Hi Dixie. It's so nice to see you here at FFO. I think any place that one creates art is the studio. LOL I love your corner of creating. Sorry about the computer. We love em and hate em all at once. The tomatoes look amazing. Thank you for sharing with FFO and have a nice weekend.
Its a mixture of very sunny days and some rain here at the moment, Love all your pictures...I haven't started planting my tomatoes yet...as where they will go is still filled with builders rubber! I'm house sitting dogs, so thats why I'm sooo late wishing you a Happy T day. So Happy Easter day as well! ((Lyn))
No clouds for me either and no AI. love your watercolours, happy T Day!
Like you, my son is my computer geek ... if I have a problem, I call on him :) Your paintings are lovely. You certainly have a handle on what water color paints are good for each painting. And, I spotted your Matcha in the first picture. I was going to ask, but didn't have to :) I love the cloud picture. I am a cloud gazer ... every day I look for interesting clouds. Some tell me the about the weather, some have faces or figures and some are just beautiful. Your Easter Chicken is adorable and no, I can't see any mistakes so you covered it well. Lovely post, Dixie ...
