We were out at the Parkway for a picnic recently. As you can see the day was generous--nothing but beautiful!
Sometimes you just want to hitch a ride, but the skipper was having a few issues: namely hitting the bottom. For privacy's sake, I removed the people and the name of the boat.
A peaceful cove
Wildflowers. Fleabane, Hawkweed, Anemone
Because I didn't want to startle them, I snuck up on these geese. As you can see some were busy feeding. I didn't know it but they also "talk" softly to each other all the time. It must be comforting, I suppose.
Canadian geese mate for life.
At another time, I watched
one standing guard while the other one enjoyed a lovely grassy dinner.
Generally, Canadians are known to be nice folks, but these Canadians can
be rather feisty. They will attack humans or something as large as a cow if they feel threatened, or they are protecting their nest.
Last year, a female laid her eggs in the Walmart parking lot miles away from the river. The city came and put a fence around her. What a silly goose!
Meanwhile the anxious male hung around outside the fence, dogging traffic. (I hope he made it.)
In the end, I bet
there was some sort of marital discussion.
Such as, "Martha we've got to do better than this."
"I agree, but I believe this was your idea, Fred.”

DeleteBeautiful book marks! Happy blog breaking.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sharon. Enjoy the summer.
DeletePoor Fred. =) I'm glad those geese didn't see you sneak up on them, Dixie; they sound as if they can be brutal. Those sun prints bookmarks are gorgeous. Love that you enhanced these with watercolour paint. Have a lovely little break. See you in spring!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a beautiful summer day. Happy Summer to you!!
ReplyDeleteThe bookmarks looks lovely, too. :)
Happy Summer to you too, Dee.
DeleteAnd thank you.
I loved this: "The day was generous." It was indeed. Your bookmarks are fabulous. I've been starting on watercolor bookmarks for the November sale but those sunprints are stunning. I love the geese -- not so much when they poop on my beach but the rest of the time. They are feisty, though. I was swimming the other day and a huge flotilla of geese, including parents with goslings, were headed toward me. It was a magical experience, although I didn't try to swim toward them -- I've seen those geese get pretty protective and I wasn't about to get in their way!
ReplyDeleteHi Dixie: Beautiful blog. Canada Geese are a nuisance. It has become virtually impossible to walk along the riverfront because their guava is absolutely everywhere! Enough whining! I love your pictures especially of the water and sailboat. Happy Summer. Love, Joannie
ReplyDeleteHi Joannie,
DeleteSailboats are so graceful on the water. Coming from a long line of mariners, I am ashamed to say that I've never been sailing. It's never too late, I reckon. :)
Enjoy your summer and your lovely garden.
Hi Dixie. Your sun print artwork is lovely -- I have a love/hate relationship with Canada Geese. They're beautiful to look at, they mate for life, the families are adorable to watch. But oh my goodness they can be messy. ... thanks for sharing and enjoy your summer blog break!
ReplyDeleteI love to see the baby geese as well. But you do have to watch where you are walking. :) Thank you, Sallie.
DeleteLovely shots of the scenery and blues of the day.
ReplyDeleteThank you Peabea.
DeleteLovely photos, Dixie! What a silly goose indeed. The bookmarks are wonderful with watercolour enhancement. Have a wonderful break!

ReplyDeleteGood morning, beautiful post-really enjoyed all the photos-I love seeing sailboats, and the geese story-too funny I can totally relate to the male geese. we had a pair that nested in one of our ponds when we lived in the woods-we ended up having an "understanding" when we realized I was sharing cracked corn haha.
ReplyDeleteLove your sun prints too

ReplyDeleteI love your bookmarks Dixie! Enjoy your blog break! ♥ Yes, we Canadians are a nice bunch, but I was chased down by a lake one time by a Canada Goose because I apparently and unknowingly got too close to the babes!!! Scary! I felt like it was Jurassic Park and I'd be pecked mercilessly lol... ☺
ReplyDeleteYes, looks like a perfect day.
ReplyDeletePerfect day weather wise.

Oh I love your bookmarks! And your landscape photos show the summer at its best - so peaceful & idyllic. Fortunately I haven’t met many Canadian geese in person, but have heard that they might be feisty. Marital problem, why not!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful scenes.
ReplyDeleteDixie - beautiful water-related photos, especially the sailboat. Geese - I remember a similar story from my working days, when a goose pair built a nest in our parking lot - they were vicious in defending it. Love your bookmarks. Thanks so much for linking to Mosaic Monday!
ReplyDeleteYour bookmarks are gorgeous! And one of your photos looks a little like one of mine today. It's a small world isn't it? Enjoy your break! I need one soon too.
ReplyDeleteIt was lovely to 'meet' you today over on Mosaic Monday. I have only just started playing around with cyanotype, and you have now presented me with a new way to explore! Thank you! Enjoy your week, enjoy summer, stay safe.
