Hi there!
Time has been flying along, and the summer is slowly winding down. Queen Anne's Lace, Golden Road, and the Brown Eyed Susie's are beautifully carpeting the countryside. It has been such a wonderful summer weather wise: a lot of sunshine and enough rain to pump up the lushness.

I've always loved the old fashioned recticules, and I have been wanting to knit this pattern since it first came out. So I did a deep stash drive (my stash is embarrassingly small just now) and found this yarn. It's wonderful yarn to knit with, but the colour is not what I expected. With mail order you can't always tell.
The bag still needs to be lined and requires a French seam, (O, dear) and since my sewing machine gave it up long ago (gasp!), I will sew it by hand. Also, the pattern calls for beads on the points. Will anything match? Perhaps a dye bath would help. :)

Loved this display. Old tools (well mostly) of the trade. |

Dixie: I love your blog today except for the Field Bindweed. We have a ton of it in our front yard and it chokes out everything it comes near. Neither Guy nor I are able to work in the garden anymore so it must wait until a friend comes to help out later in the fall. I love your little evening bag. So lovely. Your knitting is superb. Thank you for all the beautiful pictures. Have you read 'Unearthed' by Alexandra Risen? I think you might like it. Love, Joannie
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joanie.
DeleteI find Bind weed looks a lot like Morning Glory, which is a favourite of mine. So sorry to hear it has taken root in your garden. I can't imagine how you'd get rid of it. It often runs riot in the woods.
A few of the nurseries here sell native plants; Unfortunately, I noticed there were a few very invasive weeds in that mix.
As you know, I'm always looking for good books, even though I always have several on the go. I haven't heard anything about 'Unearthed" though. Thank you for letting me know. I'll definitely check it out.
Lovely summery photos, Dixie. Blue, blue skies and pretty flowers. That is some birdhouse. Love your Comedy and Tragedy Mask painting. I can't wait till Summer visits us in all it's glory.
ReplyDelete.....oops I forgot to say your evening bag is so pretty. French seams are easy, really they are...you will be fine. =)
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely photos of flora and fauna.
ReplyDeleteI 'love' your evening bag. The color looks 'antique' to me, you did a great job knitting it. I think pearls, fresh water ones, would look great with the color of yarn. I'm sure whatever you do will look wonderful.
Enjoy your week ~ FlowerLady
That bag is beautiful, wow! Great photos and you capture the end of summer very well!
ReplyDeleteYou have a wonderful variety of pictures :) You have very beautiful countryside. I also love your bag and the mask painting is fun :)
ReplyDeleteYour blossoms are just lovely to see! All your photos are really great especially the cute little prairie dog! I love the field of yellow and the knit bag, too!
ReplyDeleteEverything is so beautiful, Dixie!! The bag looks beautiful. The painting looks fantastic. I specially like the eyes. Such a lovely post :)
