Since it's been hot the fall colours aren't really painting the world yet with vivid red, orange, and yellow, but soon I hope.
I happened upon the following lovely fall quote today.

We had a tornado warning about a week ago. I was oblivious to it. (I now have a weather alert app.)
Unfortunately, six tornadoes touched down in Ottawa/Gatineau region, causing a lot of damage and shock. Although Canada does get an occasional tornado it usually doesn't amount to much, so we are all reeling. Hopefully, people will be able to rebuild before winter sets in.

Cattails. A perennial favourite of mine.
A puff ball mushroom. Apparently you can eat it. At first, I thought it was an old soccer ball. Me being me I gave it a poke with a small reed. It felt like a mushroom but I couldn't believe my eyes. A friend of mine on instagram named it for me.

Somewhere in the world there is always weather causing many problems, isn't there. Love that quote, Dixie. It encapsulates the seasons perfectly. My goodness the puff ball mushroom is intriguing; I have not heard of such a thing. Your watercolour is lovely with the overspilling pretty flowers and sweet bird. Lovely hat too....you might be needing that soon.

Interesting mushroom. I haven't seen anything like that before. We didn't have a tornado warning, but an actual tornado without a warning or watch.

Hi Dixie: A lovely blog with lots of pictures including Ms. Birdie, and I love the knitted cap. I imagine if I were to look very closely at your knitting every stitch would be perfection. Guy's nephew and his family live in Gatineau. We haven't heard if they were 'touched' by a tornado or not. I hope not. I expect we would have heard if they had been. Love, Joannie

I'm hearing of so many problems caused by the weather these days, nature is a formidable force. I love your photos, that one of the mushroom is really interesting. I love your painting too.

DeleteOne minute the front was not there and the next minute it was. On retrospect, it couldn't have happened that fast, but it seemed to.
Hi Dixie, it sounds like you weren't affected by the tornadoes - good. It sure was an unusual event. We didn't get much more than severe wind and rain in Orleans. I love your photo of cattails - swamps are my favourite spaces. Your painting is lovely.

DeleteCattails are a wonder. I've tried over the years to bring a few in, but without shellac they usually burst at the seams. The only family member ever to enjoy the spectacle: the cat. :)
An interesting set of photos in this post - my favorite is the shot of the Queen Anne's Lace - so delicate. Hope the Canadians affected by the tornado are starting to recover … weird weather events seem to happen in more and more places!
