November so soon. Thinking about and looking forward to Christmas, and the quieter season filled with good books, drawing, painting, warm cups or soup, tea, and cocoa. There will be time to snuggle up on the coach wrapped in a warm wrap too.
Speaking of Christmas, I recently bought some Christmas bobbles, napkins and Christmas cards from Home Sense. Last year there was a postal strike so sending and receiving cards was sorely missed.
Many stores are already decked out for the season. In fact, this is the first year that that has happened here, except, of course, for the dollar store; they are always ahead of the game. Usually the larger stores do not decorate for Christmas until after Remembrance Day.

Package from a friend.
Earlier this year, I received a wonderful package from the multi-talented and lovely artist, Soma. You can visit Soma at Ink Torrents Graphics We do an exchange now and then.
Inside, a lino print of her sweet kitty, Charlie; the beautiful handmade book was in the tin, and the wonderful watercolour painting, was painted using paint that Soma made from Coreopsis flowers no less.
She’s a wonder!
The colour of the paint looks exactly like Quin gold. It is amazing.
Soma said, her painting was inspired by her hikes in the Sierras.
The painting arrived in its own little envelope too.

These are Diane Townsend pastels. Terrages to be exact. I can't believe how similar they are. I must have been day dreaming that day.
From L’Artisan Pastellier
Blue to compliment the orange. A girl can always do with a few more blue pastels, or blue clothing, ornaments, ribbons or anything that is blue. (Shown before—can’t stop admiring these colours.)
These divine blues come from the Woad plant.
There are thirteen blue pastels that the company makes from the Woad plant; I have ten gorgeous colours.
Most people are familiar with the indigo plant, but I, for one, didn't know about Woad. Both plants create beautiful dyes; however, extracting the dye makes for labour-intensive work.
Here is an interesting article about Woad. It's a wonderful that they have revived both plants for dyeing, paint making etc.
Speaking of blue, I went to a pottery show recently. Came away with a wonderful handmade mug. So many talented potters there. It was a real feast for the eyes.
Until Next Time...

Happy November Dixie! Lovely autumn tree. I love the colours! So lovely. Beautiful artwork you create. The pastels look like so much fun to work with. I love all the blue colours and also that blue mug is beautiful! I really love the portrait at the end. Very beautiful. Have a lovely November and a wonderful rest of the week! :) hugs!
This post is just loaded with fantastic art! I love your new pastels -- they are large! And wonderful colors (especially the blues, though those naturals are stunning.) And Soma's gift is a treasure. I love her blog and art and what a joy to have an original as well as the paint! The pottery jug, portrait, beautiful trees -- life is good. I'm not ready for my favorite holiday season -- it seemed to come so quickly. But as they say, time waits for no one, so on we go!
Yes, November is def a lovely month. I love your tree.
In my personal world it's a relaxed quiet month before the busyness of December. As you mention evenings by the fire on the couch with a book and a hot drink. I have tested my stove today, just to see if everything is OK and ready for when it really gets cold.
What an amazing package from your friend! I love the watercolour painting. In my imagination it is a cat sitting on that wee boat.
Happy T-day,
Lisca
Forgot to say I looove your new mug!
Lisca
Happy T day. The foliage is beautiful. I noticed today that 75% of our trees are now bare and it looks totally different from October. That's a lovely gift from Soma. I love reading her blog too. But I especially loved your blue mug. There's nothing like handmade ceramic mugs, is there? I hope you're having a wonderful T day. hugs-Erika
These are lovely! #WednesdayAroundtheWorld
Hi Dixie. I'm new here. My name is Ivy. I LOOOOOOVE the blues and I'm with you on the Christmas. Was just in TJ/TK Maxx today and they had the nicest Christmas music playing. Lots of Christmas goodies out too. Was neat.
Later this week we'll hit HomeGoods/HomeSense and see what's they have going as well. I'm on the hunt for more winter mugs.
Cheers, Ivy.
Beautiful art you shared, Dixie, I love all the blues. Our grocery has Christmas cookies, stollen and all that since early September. I feel sorry for today´s kids - is Christmas special for them? When I was a kid those items were available came December.
Either way, happy November to you!
Lovely post with beautiful art!
Beautiful trees! Love the blue in this post - sky, pastels and mug (especially the mug). Belated Happy T day, Chris
Your autumn foliage is gorgeous. Here the tree leaves go from green to brown. What wonderful art you got from Soma. She is such a generous person.
I LOVE that blue mug. It is really lovely pottery and does look like water falling over pebbles. Thanks for sharing your art and mug with us for T this week, Dixie.
Such beautiful autumn colors! Fall is such a wonderful season. Your pastels look so yummy, incredible colors. The hues of blue are amazing and they complement the oranges. The mug is so pretty - pottery stores or markets are highly dangerous for me.
Dixie - thank you so much for your visit to my blog and your kind comments!
How wonderful to have an exchange with Soma - she is very talented and anyone would be blessed to receive some of her artistry!
I love the mug you bought ... we have a rule that if we buy any new ones, we have to get rid of one we have ... a tough putt for me!
You had me at blue (my favorite color) and cat. Happy T Day
Happy Thursday! I'm going to get my pastels out and make some art! :) have a lovely rest of the day!
Lovely art!
Good to see you enjoying autumn. The mug is so pretty and the portrait is lovely.
I love our little exchanges. A package from you always makes me smile and I always have a LOT of fun with putting together a package for you.

...Dixie, you beautifully showed that blue comes in an array of shades. Stay warm and dry and I wish you a Nifty November.
Hi Dixie, I learned so much on your blog today. I had not seen pastels in the shape of the first photo. Very interesting. The article on the Woad plant really captured my attention. It certainly does make the best blues. Your photos are amazing with so much color. How fun to get a handmade mug with a story. I really do love your sketch. Great eyes and a fabulous mouth. I hope you join in on the self portrait challenge. You have until the 28th to show it. Thank you for joining FFO and have a wonderful weekend.
Lovely portrait ~ and gorgeous autumn photos ~ Happy Weekend to you !

Yes, quite amazed with Woad too, especially since the flowers are
a light yellow and then it all turns. blue.
Working on the drawing for self-portrait challenge. No luck so far—I’ve
been, it seems, erasing more than drawing. Lol
Thanks, Nicole.
Best Wishes
I am not sure the trees know what to do this year, especially after that hot summer. Snow is in the way though, so we will see what happens.
Really enjoying the new mug. Only one other handmade one, and this one
is special.
That is so early to have all the goodies in the stores. We discovered
Stollen a couple of years ago. My! What a treat!
Happy November to you, Iris.
Hi Ivy,
Many thanks for you visit, and nice to greet you, Ivy
Looking forward to the festivities this year too.

Thank you, Chris.
Blue does seem to be a favourite colour for a lot of people.

Thank you, Elizabeth.
It’s been a spectacular fall. Snow is on the way, but a lot of the leaves
are still holding on. Sounds like a perfect time to go out for photos.
Best Wishes
Lydia many thanks.
Definitely a lovely package.
Glad your stove is all systems go. I miss days when we had
a wood fire.
I believe you are quite right about a cat sittingin the boat.:)
Best Wishes, Lisca
And a very Happy November to you too, Maria.

love Sketchy
Thank you, Annie.
Thank you, Tom
Warm and dry are priorities these days.
Although an occasional stroll on a warm rainy day
works too.
I love how your post celebrates the little joys of the season. The soft glow of autumn, the anticipation of Christmas, and the treasures from friends and artists. Your attention to color and craft makes everything feel so tactile and alive. It’s inspiring to see someone savoring the details in such a warm, thoughtful way.

Nice sketch Dixie! And wowsa, those blues are vibrant, that's a good brand. I love the mug too, I used to go to a festival called 1000 Pots when I lived near Montreal, it was great!
