Summertime

                       Hi there,

My, it has been hot but, thankfully, not as hot as it is out west and other parts of the world. (Hopefully, it will cool down for everyone soon.) On the day this photo was taken, it would have been nice to jump in this fountain.

Hot days but recently cool nights. Some nights 13C or  55.4 F.  The cool nights must be a relief for the fire fighters. So many fires this season.  191 wild fires in Ontario alone. About 858 fires burning nation wide.
                      So sad for many communities.

On the home front…Unfortunately, I hurt my foot. Not sure how.  It started to swell one day and two days later boom. It was getting better, but now both feet are sore. Back to square one or two—not been out and about much.

Waiting for an appointment with a podiatrists. There are several here, but they are all booking for the middle of August. And even though I emphatically wined that I have places to go, people to see and worlds to conquer, no earlier appointment granted.  Humbug!

So it’s RICE: rest, ice, compression and elevation. Not getting along so well with resting.

*

This wooden palette was a Christmas gift from my son, Jesse.

Sometimes, it seems, I can get too precious with new items. Time to get on with it. Use it!

A toothpick works to get rid of air bubbles in the paint.  Filled the palette so far with mostly Sennelier watercolour paint.  Will the paint dry without cracking?  Probably. (Gouache often cracks and sometimes crumbles when it dries. Just add more paint.)

The good thing about Sennelier paint is that the binder is honey, so even after some time the tubes are generally easy to open.

9 slots left. What to add?  Decisions, decisions.

Will swatch the colours once the paint dries.

The brush slot holds two travel brushes.  Also, the palette does have a tripod attachment. May set it up inside for a test drive.
But do prefer a small inconspicuous setup for outside—lap or a table works well.

                                                                        Iced matcha.
Pleased to be joining T Stands for Tuesday

Could add these to the palette, although so fun to mix greens even though greens, to me, are finicky to work with.  Would, however, like to try another brand of sap green.  Even with red added to tone it down it appears garish to me.  Maybe it is just a matter of getting use to it.

Tip: you can use white gouache sparingly to fix watercolour mistakes.
It will be opaque, but depending on where it is and how you paint, it may not be                                                                noticeable.

Concertina booklet that I recently made. You may remember it from my last blog post.
Small and handy. Makes it easy to sit on the sofa and draw with the wax pastels.

Love pine trees.

Working on the darkest value paper is different.  Although you can mix the wax pastels with water, it doesn't work on this paper.

There are 11 pages in this booklet with two left to paint.

                                                                Eye of the birch.

Painted with gouache and wax pastels on
                                                       400 series Strathmore paper.
The Neo colour wax pastels are fun to work with. They stay put—no smudging or dust to worry about.              Will try a larger drawing/painting at some point.

The world is still Shakespeare’s oyster. But the debate runs on: is Will, really the Bard, or did the poet Emilia Bassano write the plays and sonnets?
Or were certain other men or women the writer?  Round and round we go.  We do know that Will added  1700 words to the language and that he was brilliant. Small wonder the plays and sonnets are still entertaining us today.  Apparently, “Where there’s a Will there’s a way.”

Love the clouds in this photo.

Sunrise 5:27 a.m. Sunset 8:42 p.m. Later than last time.

by approx 12 minutes. (Inquiring minds.)
                                                    Be well and stay strong.

If it was hot (18C now) people jump into the fountain to cool off, no worries here! Sorry about your feet.
Love your art, must get back to that, too. But I just don´t feel like it! I have so many tools here, it´s a shame!
That drink looks yummy, have a happy T-Day, if resting...

Those fires are terrible. We have them here in the US too, so between all the fires, the smoke hasn't been great. Sorry to read about your foot, but that is a very cool birthday gift. Yes, it was definitely time to try it out. I know what you mean, sometimes its easy to not want to mess up something that is beautiful. But this is meant to be, right? I hope you'll be back up on your feet soon. Happy T day.

I'm so sorry about your feet, Dixie. I have trouble with the rest part of RICE as well. Your photos are lovely and thanks for all the tips with watercolor. I really like the face you drew too.

I'm sorry to hear your foot/feet are hurting. I hope you get an appointment soon.
Bush fires are horrible. Here in Spain it's very hot and there are fires everywhere.
Great that you are starting to use your Christmas gift. That is what your son would have wanted.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca

I love Daniel's Green Earth. That's a gorgeous palette -- I get what you mean about precious but boy, that's a gem. I am so sorry about your foot. Rest gets old. Are you in pain with this too? Wondering if it's a tendon issue? They had me off my feet for eight weeks with one but all good now. I'm glad it's improving but do be careful. At least you can paint sitting down, even with one leg up! And I hope you're not getting smoke from the fires. Take care.

I'm sorry to read about your feet, Dixie. It's sad you have to wait so long for an appointment.

It's sad about the fires. We get smoke as far south as Kansas, too.

What a great Christmas gift. I don't paint much, but that is one great set. And Shakespeare is drawn perfectly.

Your iced matcha looks really refreshing. Thanks for sharing it with us for T this Tuesday.

The wooden paint palette is awesome. Sitting and painting is one way to keep your foot elevated and resting. Hope you're doing better. Happy T Day

I can relate to the fires. For some years California was burning every summer. Smoke so think you could barely see. Awful. I hope they are under control soon.

I hope you can get to the doctor so your swelling can be addressed. Makes life difficult.

Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Stay safe. ♥

We're lucky in that we don't get too many wildfires here in the UK but there are some. Loving the photos, and I can imagine how nice it would have been to run through that fountain! Happy WOYWW Helen #1

Happy weekend after WOYWW!
Waiting for an appointment is never fun. Hope you get sorted soon. That wooden palette is stunning - what a thoughtful son. Love the trees and the concertina - making books is such fun and there are fewer things more useful. Having said that I fear I might have toooooo many at this point. I can't seem to gift them fast enough, when the joy is in the making more so than the using....

Oh, what a wonderful talent. Love the wood paint box from your son. He knows you well. Hope the podiatrist can get you back on your feet really soon. Sounds painful. Same here, doctors anymore are so hard to get an appointment, and lots here only work part of the week anymore. Thanks for visiting Peabea Scribbles and sharing your lovely photos.

Sorry to hear about your foot. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hot days and warm nights here. I can handle hot days, but I don't like it when it doesn't cool off at night!

We had a few of really HOT days at the beginning of July, now it's much cooler, not hot enough for a supposed very HOT summer. Hope your feet recover soon.

I hope you get better soon. I am not sure if in English is correct, but there is a plant, comfrey, used as extract or cream. You could explore it.
I hear all the time about the fires, but I am not sure why
they are happening. Only because the weather?
Beautiful images. And the wooden palette is awesome!
All the best and take care, dear Dixie!❤️😘

That wooden palette is lovely—a great gift! Have fun trying it out. The pictures you painted are beautiful!!!
I'm glad we haven't had any extreme heat here so far, and none is expected. Have a wonderful weekend!hugs Elke

A lot of the largest forest—the boreal forest is in Canada, so with extreme heat, lack of rain, and lightening strikes it is a recipe for disaster. The firefighters are incredibly brave and work so hard.
Thank you. Next time I order cream I will try comfrey; it is included in some Arnica creams, I think.
Enjoy the weekend…

Dear Dixie, I hope your feet have recovered by now, even if your doctor's appointment is still pending! It was hot here too—hotter than ever before: around 40 degrees Celsius. I'm so envious of your 13-degree nighttime temperature (not of the forest fires all around, of course!). I love your art!

All the best from Austria, 🤗 Traude
